Which walk is right for me?

Easy Access - walks for everyone, including people with conventional wheelchairs and pushchairs, using easy access paths. Comfortable shoes or trainers can be worn. Assistance may be needed to push wheelchairs on some sections.​

Easy - walks for anyone who does not have a mobility difficulty, a specific health problem or is seriously unfit. Suitable for pushchairs if they can be lifted over occasional obstructions. Comfortable shoes or trainers can be worn. There may be stiles.

Leisurely - walks for reasonably fit people with at least a little country walking experience. May include unsurfaced rural paths with stiles. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing are recommended.

Moderate - walks for people with country walking experience and a good level of fitness. May include some steep paths and open country, and may be at a brisk pace. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing are essential.

Six varied walks set off between 7.30am and 1.30pm, from this cafe in a re-purposed barn on a peaceful farm in the beautiful Sussex countryside. We suggest treating yourself to lunch or coffee and homemade cake! Then come and say hello to the friendly Walking Festival team at our information stands on-site.

A Creative Writing Meander

Free up creativity on a walk round Quarry Farm with author Deirdre Huston. Meander through orchards, march alongside a river, see the bridge Turner painted, glimpse the ramparts of a medieval castle. Broadwater Warren to Eridge Rocks Wildlife Walk

A circular walk exploring the ancient woodland and heathland of RSPB's Broadwater Warren Nature Reserve and the famous sandstone outcrops of Eridge Rocks, looking out for wildlife along the way. There are benches en route, and if you prefer a shorter walk option, you can cut back across the Reserve.

A circular woodland walk within a former clay brick quarry taking in wet woodland (with orange ‘iron ore’ water), a wooded stream, glades and ponds. Looking for newts, damselflies, butterflies, etc. Led by the Park Ranger who’ll explain how the site is managed.

Being a coastal county, and relatively close to the continent, Sussex was at the forefront of smuggling in the Georgian period. Of numerous ‘gangs’, the ‘Hawkhurst Gang’ was the most infamous.

A figure-of-8 route via the eastern part of the Sussex Diamond Way, a 60-mile trail through central Sussex, created in 1995 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Ramblers’ Association. Option to return by bus from Five Ashes.

Duration: Guided tours of the garden and traditional orchard through the day, lasting roughly 40 minutes.

Difficulty: ​Easy (the majority of the garden is wheelchair user-friendly although grass paths are not surfaced).
